Water Levels

The Sabie and Mac Mac rivers (our local rivers) are rainfall dependent with a small catchment area.  The best time to kayak them are a few day after good rainfall.  Our rainy season starts in December to end of February.

There are 4 different stretches of river you can choose from depending on the water level:

  1. U3 - Good in medium to high water (safe compulsory 10m waterfall included).
  2. U2 - Good in low to high water.
  3. U1 - Good in high water.
  4. Mac Mac - Good in high water.

  • You have seen a kayaking video, photo or advertisement - it looks like great fun and it is!  Before you run to your nearest kayak shop and buy all the gear rather get good advice on what gear will be best for you before you spend money on wrong gear.
  • Even better, attend a kayak school and try out all the latest gear available.
